Statues in Río de Janeiro
Christ the Redeemer
The most popular place in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The statue of Christ has a viewpoint where one can stay looking out from for their entire lives. A spectacular view of Rio de Janeiro and the surrounding nature. A very special place that you need to see for yourself.
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Ipanema Beach
Ipanema Beach is world famous. During my stay I could not enjoy it because of bad weather, but if the weather is good, it is filled with surfers, tourists, and athletes. Obviously if you go to the River you have to stop by, although don´t expect a Caribbean beach.
Nature Reserves in Río de Janeiro
The Pao de Azucar, compared to the view from the Corcovado, is not as high or as spectacular, but it is more conveniently accessible, has fewer lines, and is cheaper than el Cristo Redentor. I was there on December 31st, which is probably why there were very few people. I was able to get through the various platforms with ease. Connected by a funicular, the first is in the Morro (Hill) de Urca and the second is directly on top of Pao de Azucar. On the way back I decided to walk down from the Urca, and I could see how people practised the almost vertical climb of the Morro. I recommend walking down if you have time because the views of the surrounding beaches are spectacular.
Gardens in São Paulo
Parque do Ibirapuera
In the middle of a crazy city like Sao Paolo, unbearable traffic and skyscrapers, find the Ibirapuera park. It is an oasis of peace. In my case I love sports and whenever I travel I look around part of a city while running. I recommended this park. You can enjoy fantastic nature while you take a walk. There are a few basketball courts and football pitches, children parks, lakes, a street vendor and a bar to have a drink. Warning: do not go after dark.
Cities in Buzios
Benagalbón, in the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria, in Axarquia, is a white town, cheerful and where traditions still remain popular. Benagalbón was founded by Galb-un (a beberer tribe) who introduced agriculture, created its source of wealth (the vine) and exploited the raisin and wine. In the fifteenth century Benagalbón was a farmhouse with a tower in its coastal defense, at the end of the Catholic kings the conquest of the Moorish ordered that they could not reside within five leagues of the coast, and those who refused to leave their property, moved to live there. Later, under Charles III, the house Fuente de Bezmiliana was built (1789) and the roads leading to the village were improved, being one of the 14 most important urban of areas of Axarquia at that time. It was displaced by the commercial activity of Rincon de la Victoria and, in 1950, became part of the municipality. On February 2 they celebrate the feast of the "Candelaria" patron of the town, this is a good time to try one of their typical dishes like the kettle of fish or if you prefer the fried goat.
Streets in São Paulo
Paulista Avenue
Paulista Avenue is one of the main avenues in the city of Sao Paulo. It opened in 1891, and here you can find financial institutions, restaurants, shops, cultural centres, hotels, etc ... the metro passes through here, allowing you to make fast connections to different parts of Sao Paulo.
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Copacabana Beach
This is another great beach in Rio next to Ipanema. It is very long and when there´s warm weather, it´s a great place for tourists to enjoy the sun and water. It´s also great for surfing and other water sports. At night, the environment is a bit different and it feels much ´darker.´ In any case, you can´t miss this beach and it´s wonderful views of Brazil.
Beaches in Jericoacoara
Jericoacoara Beach
Jericoacoara surprises everyone with its great number of beaches, hotels, inns and restaurants. It is a true paradise. I hope to go again this year as I do every year and see if I have the courage to learn how to kitesurf. I have friends who have a kite surfing school and I have never had the time to learn. This is a great place to learn, as the sea is flat. I recommend everyone to visit this excellent tourist destination.
Markets in São Paulo
Mercadão - Mercado Municipal de São Paulo
I love visiting the markets in the cities that I travel to. The one in Sao Paulo does not disappoint. You can also have a drink there, as well as enjoy the the spectacular bologna sandwiches (fabulous!!). Of course, it is the ideal place to buy some local foods of the area.
Rivers in Manaus
Amazon River
The Amazonas River is a great natural attraction that you can find in the warm areas of the Amazon basin bordering the largest and most beautiful river in the universe. The Amazon River is formed by a river and another Peruvian Colombian Vaupes river Solimoes or black and so I invite you to come check this great natural attraction out. Here we can observe the junction of the two rivers.
Nature Reserves in Barreirinhas
Lençóis Maranhenses
Lençóis means "sheet" in Portuguese, and it's a pretty adequate's a desert with an endless number of what appear to be white sheets on the horizon, with whiter sand and bluer skies than I've ever seen in my life. The most incredible part is that in between the dunes, there are lagoons of fresh rain water which are surprisingly cool and refreshing. The Lençóis Maranhenses are a National Park and private vehicles are no longer allowed. You get there on ATVs, normally Toyotas. You have to cross some of the lagoons and the water gets inside the car, so make sure to put your camera in a plastic bag! First you cross a river, then spent an hour crisscrossing through the dunes before you get to the center of the park. From there, I think I'll let the photos explain it all!
Waterfalls in Foz do Iguaçu
Beaches in Río de Janeiro
Praia do Arpoador
I came here on the recommedation of a co-workers, and found it to be a beautiful place to enjoy a spectacular sunset. I've been told that the best days to visit are around the autumn equinox, when the sun sets right between the two peaks of Dois Irmãos.
Train Stations in São Paulo
Estacao da Luz
On the blue metro line, you can go to the station of Luz, which dates back to the nineteenth century. It's a historical site, where you can visit the Museum of the Portuguese Language. If you visit the museum at the weekend or on a holiday, you can enjoy a guided tour of the station. You can also cross the street to visit the park. It is a beautiful place to visit, and will be your starting point for many excursions.
Neighborhoods in Salvador
Pelourinho is much more than a neighborhood of Salvador, it is the city's historical and cultural center. Although it is considered to be the city center it seems to be away from the reality of the city. Portuguese baroque architecture predominates and contrasts the colors of the statues and the fabrics from souvenir shops. Situated high up in the city and harbor front, wealthy families of this residential neighborhood lived and suffered during the 60 years of social degradation thus it became marginalized. However, thanks to its recognition as a Unesco world heritage site it is re-emerging as the colorful and lively cultural center of Salvador. Tiled floors leads you up the street, down the street is the Jorge Amado Foundation, the Museum Gourmet of Bahia, endless craft shops and numerous samba groups. Pelourinho has color, music, art, and ultimately, life.
Islands in Morro de São Paulo
Morro de São Paulo
Try the nice hotels on the beach. They are expensive, but awesome. For less expensive trip, stay at Gamboa and take the boat to go to Morro. Really cheap.
Lakes in Río de Janeiro
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon
Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon is a giant lake in the middle of the city that you can walk/jog/rent a bike and travel along. It is very beautiful
Islands in Fernando de Noronha
Fernando de Noronha
Fernando do Noronha was even visited by Charles Darwin in the 19th century! It's an ideal place for adventure tours especially things like diving and snorkeling. The waters are crystal clear and the visibility is perfect. It's definitely the most beautiful place in Brazil.
