    All about Distrito Federal tourism

    Mexico City, or Mexico, D.

F., is the capital of and largest city in Mexico. The city’s subtropical setting and high elevation mean that temperatures are consistently balmy and make Mexico City tourism possible year-round. Most Mexico City travel plans involve arriving at Benito Juarez International Airport where you can easily hop on the metro at Terminal 1 and quickly travel to your hotel or the downtown area to begin to visit Mexico City.

Many people travel to Mexico City for its mix of historical buildings, archaeological sites and nearby natural areas. A good place to begin your Mexico City vacation is the nerve-center of the city: the Zocalo. The Zocalo is a massive square and meeting place that’s home to the National Cathedral and government buildings, and is close to many of the city’s top museums and shopping areas. Make sure to also plan a day visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the country’s most important church and a must on any Mexico City trip.

Tourism in Mexico City is also about exploring the natural areas that surround the city. The Popocatépetl volcano, located south of the city, can be seen on clear days and is a popular place for hikers and mountain bikers. A trip to Mexico City is also a perfect chance to visit the stunning plazas and pyramids of the ancient city of Teotihuacan, located only a short drive away.

Finally, don’t forget that holidays in Mexico City are a great opportunity to try a range of authentic Mexican cuisine. Try heading to the massive San Juan Market where you can peruse fresh local ingredients and sample some of Mexico’s most authentic street food. If you’re ready to being planning your Mexico City holidays, we have hundreds of recommendations and tips from real travelers so you won’t miss a thing!
