Near Auckland's mall and financial center is the beautiful neighborhood of Point Chevalier, or Point Chev for short.
The neighborhood had its beginnings in the early twentieth century, and over the years has become a multicultural neighborhood with different social classes. Its present inhabitants are very community-oriented, and their sense of belonging to the neighborhood is often expressed in conversation.
In addition to its proximity to downtown, the neighborhood has one of the most beautiful parks in the city: the Western Springs. The park is also a magnificent gateway to the city zoo.
At the end of the street named after the neighborhood, theres the beach where you can relax and watch beautiful sunsets. There are also many activities in the water or on the shore and you can make barbecues in the park at the end.
The different styles of architecture in the houses alludes to the different social classes, and the different tastes and needs of its inhabitants.
Every day there is a Maori cultural show at the Auckland Museum, that lasts around 45 minutes, from May to December 11am, 12 and 1.30pm, and from January to April also at 2.30pm. There are songs, traditional dances, a Haka, weapons, musical instruments and tools used by the Maori people.
