Neighbourhood is one of those places that you can't miss if you go to Cape Town. It's a restaurant with a varied menu, perfect for dining with friends, and also for cocktails or drinks. It has a dining room, several rooms with sofas, one with pool tables and a terrace. Something I liked about all the bars in Cape Town is that they all have terraces. I would have to say that the atmosphere could only be described as "cool", and it has great music.
We found this during our overnight stay in Johannesburg, in Eastgate Shopping. The restaurant offers a combination of South African and Japanese cuisine, specialising in seafood. We had a small selection of oysters and shrimp, and tried a beer called Windhoek Namibia. They have a small market selling seafood, and also a sushi bar. A great option for happy hour.
Balducci's is on Cape Town's famous Waterfront. It's an Italian restaurant, with some great seafood options. I tried the grilled fish, and my friend had salmon. Both dishes were excellent! It's not cheap - the Waterfront is an expensive area - but definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is nice, and the service is very fast.
Jemimas restaurant is exquisitely decorated with colonial style furniture. Inside there is a library where you can browse the many books at your leisure. It is located in the center of Oudtshoorn and has a very pleasant terrace. The menu offers typical local dishes such as Bobotie or Ostrich meat but prepared with a French twist. Desserts are very rich, including Pavlova, cakes, bread & butter puddings and ice cream. It is not a cheap restaurant, but well worth a visit if you find yourself in this part of the world.
Hass is the best cafe I visited in Cape Town. It is open from morning until almost night, so it is a decent spot for breakfast, lunch and a snack. The site is in a quiet area, the décor is super modern, the terrace invites you to have a coffee while lounging on the sofa and the music is great. Besides coffee (which is very good, by the way) this cafe offers an extensive menu and each dish has a "touch" that makes it different and delicious. The service is excellent. This is a great place for a breakfast with a friend on long weekends or while reading the newspaper. You can also order your coffee to go.
