This is a Caffe with Self-Service, situated next to the Cathedral. The food is good and the portions are big. They also sold me a bottle of the famous vinegar of Modena (25 euros though). It's a good experience.
In 1995, this restaurant opened in Modena. It is now considered the fourth best in the world by international critics. The chef Massimo Bottura, is a disciple of Ferra Adria. In the restaurant there are 3 types of menus: the "traditional" uses the best products of the region of Emilia Romagna, the tasting menu and an innovative menu with Bottura's most recent creations. The property is very quiet and the food is more than pleasant. The chef is very nice and fun to talk to. A visit to Modena is worth it if only to eat at this restaurant.
The concept of a Salsamenteria is immediately likeable. Imagine a place full of amazing cured meats like hams, salamis, and sausages...now, imagine you can add a bottle of wine or lambrusco to the table. That's a salsamenteria! You go to the counter, pick what you want, and they bring it to the table.
This Salsamenteria in the historic district of Busseto has really unusual decor. Verdi went there to eat after working on his operas and over the years it has become something of a temple to the composer. There are items, photos, and drawing of him everywhere. This little museum-cafe is tremendously charming and the owners couldn't be friendlier.
You have to try the sauces...they still have the original recipes from 1873. Amazing!
Caprarie Street is a pleasant, bustling shopping area which is near the Piazza San Petronio and Piazza Maggiore. This shop is on the corner of Tamburini, it is a delight for the senses and you shouldn't miss it, you will see an amazing array of fresh pasta, sweets, sausages, all neatly arranged in the windows.
In the heart of the university district of Bologna is this magnificent bohemian restaurant. The name in dialect means "crazy bird", and the picture on the wall of the main hall shows the restaurant's relationship with the old brothels. The menu of Sicilian cuisine, based on seafood, is rich and abundant. The atmosphere is cozy and interesting, and the restaurant periodically hosts exhibitions of works by contemporary artists. A great place for nourishing mind and body alike!
This restaurant is a few meters from the train station, and its outward appearance isn't the best, but it's "Tradizionale Emiliana" food and the friendly and perfectly uniformed wait staff make it a delight to eat here.
The inside looks like a old brick cellar and the specialties are: antipasto de la casa, affettato misto di salumi nostrani with fried crescents, tortellini in brodo, noodles in a red meat sauce, noodles in a red meat sauce with magoncini and fegatini, balanzoni alla Garisenda, tagliata di manzo in tegame al rosmarina e sale grosso, bollito misto di carne al carrello, cotoletta alla Petroniana.
The presentation and accompaniments of the bollito are pretty substantial. It's a big portion brought to the table on a metal cart and served in front of you, for the greedy. The tagliatelles with mushrooms come highly recommended, the vegetable soup with a heaping pile of grated parmesan, and the tiramisu served in a cup, very different than the tiramisu we're used to here in Spain.
The price is around 25 euros per person.
Isolani Court is a new modern area, with two beautiful palaces opposite the church of Santo Stefano. Cafes, shops, offices, and homes are scattered through the halls and courtyards. This cafe has mulled wine and hot chocolate in winter, and offers a special brunch that shouldn't be missed.
Cantina Bentivoglio is the place for jazz under the stars. It's a veritable temple of jazz where, since 1989, world-class musicians have made magic every evening. They have a terrace right out in the street so you can enjoy the music and an al fresco dinner. Book in advance for a great night!
It is an ornate and small restaurant serving traditional food from the area, and served by a talkative lady ve will explain the origin of each dish. The easiest is to put yourself on one of the most lovely streets of the city, the street of the medieval arches, the Via delle Volte, where you will find the entrance and the menu where you can see the specials of the day. The recommendations made by the lady can serve as a reference, and you can try battered squash blossoms, or pasta Capelletti, or a very spicy meat (similar to Spanish chorizo sausage) with mashed potatoes . Everything is very tasty, including the restaurant´s homemade tiramisu or chocolate cake, and served in quite a charming atmosphere.
Great pizza, with delicious parmesan and rocket, washed down with some Brut! It's a historic pizzeria in Bologna, and although it's very good, the area isn't the best. But it's very convenient thanks to the motorway and the ring road.
I don't know if there are any other similar places - I certainly haven't seen any. You'll have to make a reservation, as this restaurant, located a few steps from the Piazza Maggiore, is always full. Buy ham, bologna, bread, chees,n and olives in one of the many shops in the old town, order a drink and sit down. It's best to go with a large number of friends (the wooden tables seem made only to accommodate large groups). It is a very old inn that opened its doors in 1465, and the walls bear witness to the history of this place with an incredible number of relics. Worth a visit!
I've been to Rimini on several occasions and Frankie's is a place that I've liked from the first time I went. I remember that each I've loved the fish entrees, both cold and hot. And since the first time I always try something new. On another time I went, it was a shrimp with orange sauce dish that was delicious. They were sea snails with a sauce that was scrumptious and the last time I went I had tuna, here I'll let the photo speak for itself. Although the best is listening to Sandro, it's funny how the mind dreams about these recipes and you're enthralled as the ideas you have naturally are put into practice. It leaves you thinking about when you'll return. While I think the tiramisu is the quintessential traditional dessert, I'll leave you with another dessert photo we took, because a little candy never hurt anyone.
I'll remember Osteria del Cappello as the place where I ate the best pasta Bolognese of my life. It was nothing more and nothing less than a good portion of tagliatelle first, and then another amazing plate of chicken, onions and authentic Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Scrumptious! The final touch was the tetherin cake with mascarpone. It was to die for. Apart from its exquisite cuisine, I'd like to make a special note of the cozy decor and originality...for example, they have board games you can play while you wait for your next course! It's located only a few steps from Piazza Maggiore and most of the main sights in town.
Casual and unpretentious, on a side street off the Via Nazionale, and I recommend it because of its great value. Particularly striking is the profusion of scattered paper placemats on the walls, and the cartoons are like decoration. Delicious homemade pasta stuffed with ricotta, lasagna, homemade chocolate cake with cream, in order to fill your stomach at an affordable price.
I had to eat bolognese, and this was the place I chose. It is centrally located, with a decent terrace. The best thing about it is the service (it has a Guatemalan boy who comes out to warmly greet you). The food is good, and prices reasonable for Italy. They always charge more for sitting on a terrace
This beautiful restaurant is under the arcades of the long street of Independence. The décor is exquisite, it houses perfectly uniformed waiters and neat tables. It is definitely a very romantic place. The food is based with Italian pastas and cooked marvelously, and the price is a little higher than the establishments in the area.
This restaurant is located near the beautiful cathedral of Modena, in the historic centre. From the menu at the door, you can easily get a feel for the place: classic local cuisine. When you enter you'll be greeted by the friendly owners and waiters, and sitting down will make you feel like you've been invited to a friend's house. The furnishings are simple but a bit old-fashioned - no-nonsense, as the food here is good enough that they don't need to try to trick the customers with special effects. We tried the ravioli with meat sauce, pumpkin ravioli with tomato sauce, gammon and scallops with balsamic vinegar, and dessert trifle, accompanied by a local wine. All for around 30 euro a head - just perfect!
I had New Years Even dinner there, the decoration with a lot of detail and a good atmosphere in this trattoria of the center of the city. I liked it so much. Ragu bolognese, tortellini in brodo, fantastic cotoletta bolognese, appetizers, these are some of the dishes that they offer in this restaurant of the provenzal style that only had 10 tabes.
