Between shopping trips it is always good to satisfy your appetite and this time we did it in a pub-restaurant we already knew from other times just a few steps away from the shopping street of Gibraltar on Main Street. The place has no charm but you can eat very well with what they offer. There is a small terrace but it is uncomfortable for being on a street that declines, but at least it provides a rest for tired feet after seeing many shops. One of the highlights of the day a was typical Roast Beef accompanied by a kind of bun, vegetables and mashed potatoes, all washed down with a good sauce. The price for 2 courses of that Roast Beef and four beers, the change amounted to 22 euros, not cheap but not expensive if you look at how much they serve.
In the middle of the main street of Gibraltar in the pedestrian shopping area, there´s an unusual restaurant on the corner of Engineers Street. The first time we went was just for coffee and it was unexpectedly very quiet and had a nice atmosphere. Inside there are a number of tables for four. The bar is at the end of the room, a little beyond the column holding the television. The decor is eclectic with simple decorative elements. When we didn´t feel like having curry again, we came back to this restaurant to eat. It belongs to a U.S. network that is spread all over the English-speaking world. menu contains many international dishes but specializes in French cuisine that incorporates Eastern cuisine. There were many interesting dishes so we ordered several things to share as tapas. The food had a lot of flavors that we weren´t using to trying so we were often surprised. The service is fast and the food is basic, without all those frills.
A delicious Italian rstaurant, the best restaurant in Gibraltar, and it has received 2 awards the equivalent of Michele Stars. You can eat outside on the terrace or inside, and they serve mussels with a delicious sauce. My partner ordered salmorejo and a pasta course, and you choose your sauce. I asked for ravioli stuffed with spinach and cream sauce with pesto. It looks like a little bit of food but in the end you are not left hungry. There are delicious desserts, mixing flavors. The only bad thing was the price, I ordered a champagne for € 60. Overlooking the Mediterranean, behind the rock (the rock of Gibraltar), with gentle sea breeze, the sound of seagulls, a tribute to the month of August 2011.
At over 300 meters in the center of the Rock of Gibraltar is the cave, and at the entrance just opposite there is a cafe-bar-restaurant, with snacks, fast food, or more elaborate things, in the restaurant lounge with big windows where you have good views. Coffee is a treat,as well as ice cream and cakes. And right next to the souvenir shop is their own, It Struck me that the machines issue pound coins with the image of the Rock, a good place after the cave tour and other excursions to rest a bit while having something to eat or drink.
I recommend it, it has a kitchen that is always open, we went around 17h and the kitchen was open so we had lunch at tea time. This street is the main street parallel to the "Mainstreet" and the prices were good. We ordered garlic bread with mozzarella, seafood cocktail, steak on the barbecue, burgers etc. .. we could not finish with so much food, I asked for cold water and they brought me a pitcher full of ice and with the heat that´s exactly what I wanted . It was strange that they didn´t bring me a bottle of water, because I thought that eating was expensive in Gibraltar. Discovering this centric place with such a big variety and an open kitchen made me happy.
Normally when we visit Gibraltar we eat at this restaurant that was the oldest English Tavern Rock. It is located in a very good place because we are close to the top of the main pedestrian street, Main Street, so we usually are in the shopping area around noon. Close to the beginning of Main Street is a small street on the right, where a lane is Star Bar, Parliament Lane, which is quite close but still partially open to traffic from shops. The terrace has only 4 tables. We usually eat at any of them, because the inside doesn´t have ac. Entering the left is the semicircular Barram bankS and services. The interior is all wood and is filled with memories of ITS HISTORY. The walls contain photos, sports posters with house specialties, mostly breakfasts. Joint Staff behind the bar serve English and there is some who speak spanish although not very good.. If you ask for a coffee note that they will make things hot. For everything else you can ask the waiter. The people are very good, as I left a video player there and called the next day and they had been expecting me.They have a good selection of beers and liquors. Also part of the tavern is decorated with flags English clubs like Arsenal. Besides the typical English breakfasts they offer salads, pizzas, fish and meat. Its specialty is chicken, including chicken curry recommend. They are weak in desserts and soft drinks. If you order a cola bottle they put it in a hypermarket plastic, white label. It is a good place to eat and if you still have shopping to do, between courses you can enter either of the 2 stores that have front and finish shopping.
