This store offers the best cinnamon Baillardran (small cakes are caramelized), which is the specialty of Bordeaux, they also sell Nougatines baskets and cakes of all flavors (fruit, chocolate or coffee). There are other shops like this in the city center, including in Dijeaux street. There is a shop that opened a few years ago in the Montparnasse train station, linking Paris to Bordeaux.
A mixture of a bar, French restaurant and pizzeria. Steak tartar is 12 euros, with chips, quite a good price. Confit de canard, duck broth costs 12 euros too. International dishes, English wines, and a long list of pizzas. The decor is rock, there's an old bike, and various accessories that recall the legendary Road 66. To accompany the dishes, imported beers and pressure. The menu is quite surprising, from sauerkraut, a dish of cabbage and sausage of the Alsace region, to flammekueche, a pizza with cream found in Belgium and northern France. A traditional restaurant in the center of Bordeaux. Situated inside an old house in central, and the restaurant has been open 150 years! The inner room is amazing with its painted wooden ceilings, and many details that take you on a journey through time. At noon there is a daily special menu at 11 euros, plus a first course or dessert is 16 euros. At night there is a quick menu of 26 euros, and another of 30 euros. Seasonal menu, the dishes are beautifully presented, and they do a spectacular confit. The desserts are also very rich.
This cafe, located under the gate of Dijeaux, offers a pleasant terrace and has a large variety of wines. The coffee is always served with cinnamon, which is famous in Bordeaux. Unfortunately however, the price is a bit steep. I recommend going there to relax after a day exploring the pedestrian center of Bordeaux.
If you like wine and one of the reasons you visit Bordeaux is so that you can try their wines, you must go to the Maison ... It is a bar serving the best wines, by the glass, from the Bordeaux region. It´s cheaper than in the city (taking into account the quality of what they serve, of course) because it depends on the Chartered Institute of Wine and advise if you give it a try, you will make great discoveries. You can also order a plate of sausages and cheeses (as a small side plate) to accompany the wines.
This cafe is a traditional restaurant Place Pey Berland in Bordeaux. Classic food in the region, seasonal market food. It has a large terrace overlooking the cathedral Saint André, Pey Berland tower and city hall. Inside is a cozy room with a warm décor. You can try the wine of the region, with a wine that changes each month, and various menus at 20, 30 and 35 euros. In good weather the place is really full, but you can book. Open every day until 10 pm, Sunday until eight. A la carte is around 30 euros per person. The square is pedestrian and tranquil.
The Taj Mahal is an Indian restaurant that has a good reputation in Bordeaux. This restaurant, near Sainte Catherine Street in the pedestrian city center, offers classic Indian cuisine (tandoori chicken, curry, etc..) That I find particularly good as is the chic décor. The Taj Mahal is spacious so go in groups to hold an event in a good environment, for example.
The red hat is a Basque restaurant, and you might think that refers to the Basque but it is in fact named after the street on which it is installed behind the Place de la Comédie. It is a typical local restaurant, where they serve axoa, bull meat marinated piquillo peppers, encornets to planxa, or black sauce ... Paired with a wide selection of Spanish wines. There is a friendly atmosphere with Basque music, sometimes there are parties and special events. Details of the region are etched into the decoration of stone and wood, and the feel is very convivial. A art gallery is situated below. 10 and 15 euros for a dish, there is a menu where a first and second course costs 19 euros for dinner and 16 for lunch (includes wine and dessert).
Rohan Coffee is a classic French cafe, located in the Plaza Rohan, near the town hall of Bordeaux. The spacious terrace gives you the best view of the historic buildings of the square, starting with Pey Berland tower and the city´s cathedral St. Andre. The place serves all kinds of hot and cold drinks, a lunch menu at noon and a dinner menu in the evening. The dish of the day, usually typical from the region, costs 10 euros. The lunch menu is served from midday until 14.50, and includes specials, plus a dessert and a glass of wine. They also make good ice cream. The service can be a bit slow if it is crowded, but apart from the two summer months, it´s fine. The cooking is normal, with market produce, with a good presentation and taste.
The Noailles not only is very well located, in the alleys of Tourny near the Grand Theatre, and the terrace is nice, but the food is delicious. The Noailles reminds me of Parisian brasseries in its atmosphere and food, often classics (the desserts are especially recommended). Even if it is a bit expensive, I think the food means it deserves a stop if you want to have fun.
The Tupiña is a traditional restaurant in southwestern France, created in the 60s. A facility located in a beautiful eighteenth century building, on the street Porte de la Monnaie. It is a restaurant showcasing the gastronomic pride of Bordeaux. In winter it is customer friendly, with a fireplace, and in summer the terrace open. The place is open daily and serve food until 10, closing at 11pm. At noon there is a menu of 16 euros, with plate and special of the day, plus a coffee which is a little sweet. The most gastronomic menu with foie gras, duck or lamb roast, chocolate cake and three glasses of wine is 32 euros. At night it changes. Take the opportunity to know the wines of the region.
This small street restaurant on Du Ha street is one of the best in Bordeaux for Lebanese cuisine. The chef is a culinary personality of the region and prepares an assortment of mezze, small hot and cold dishes that are shared and generally just eaten with bread. There are various menus to try everything and it's the best choice accompanied by Lebanese wine which has an original flavor. The restaurant opens at noon, is open in the evening but closes between the two. It is usually full, even though it has a discreet facade and is in a small street, it's better if you call to book.
Do you know canelés? They are small cakes that are a specialty of Bordeaux. You can have them for breakfast, snack, with coffee, with a cocktail as they are desirable at any time and are really good! They can be found in many places but on my last trip I discovered the best so far: BAILLARDAN. This prestigious pastry / coffee shop make the best canelés in the city. You can not leave without trying them!
The first time that you visit France, it seems really expensive to eat, in comparison with Spain. Even McDonald's is two or three euros more expensive. A good option is these small Turkish or Greek sandwich shops that offer fast food lunches. They have a few tables outside, and even in November it wasn´t too cold so as not to enter them. The sandwiches are a generous size, you can choose from baguette or panini type bread and they warm the bread and fill it with a little meat or ground lamb with herbs. They cost 4 euros, plus 1.50 for drinks. The potatoes are delicious. It's right in front of the Gare Saint Jean, and it´s one of the cheapest places to eat in this neighborhood.
The Via Luna is an Italian cafe that serves a little of everything, local food, oysters, in a nice place near the river. Their prices are low considering its location, part of the breakfast they charge 9.50, a little too much. The decor is modern, there is a terrace outside but the traffic in this area means it is better if you can eat inside. A glass of Champagne costs 6 euros, and offer a wide selection of wine by the glass. A dozen oysters is 20 euros, half a dozen 12 euros, of the region, thirdly, include a glass of wine. They serve tapas and nibbles, for under five euros, the dishes are a bit more expensive. For a snack it is nice as they serve pancakes, waffles and pastries.
A small street bar behind the Bordeaux theatre. Excellent atmosphere and food - a mix between a traditional neighbourhood restaurant and something a little more fashionable. A great place to come after a visit to the theatre, although it's always full. It costs about 25 euros per person. The dishes use the products of the region, but with innovative twists.
La Robe restaurant is in front of the water areas of Bordeaux. Mix two themes, wine and women- it's a wine tasting bar that serves only wine produced by women. In the region there are many denominations of origins of Bordeaux, mostly red wine and it's a mainly a business for men. But everything on the menu here was made by women. The wine is kept with all the modern tools, there are theme nights to explore one aspect of production or for a new wine tasting. The dishes served are prepared to maximize the flavors of the wine, such as foie gras, scallops with spinach and steak with bone. The dish of the day is 9 euros, with dessert is 14 euros and at night there's a 20 euro menu that is very tasty.
Le terminus is a great cafe restaurant located in front of the train station Saint Jean. It has a terrace, since they have renovated the station concourse, to make it a pedestrian neighborhood. In summer it is nice to have a coffee, watch life and travelers come and go. But you're not in the city center and you have a train to catch, this is a must-visit. It's a bit expensive for example a drink will cost around 4 euros. The food is "brasserie", French dishes, mashed with veal, beef tartare, croque monsieur ... Lunch is around 15 euros per person
