The Fortina Hotel is located in Sliema, just 300 meters from the shopping area, three kilometres from the beach in the bay of St. Julians, and eight kilometres from Malta International Airport. There are restaurants and bars within the complex, as well as WiFi Internet, full-service spa and health centre, and outdoor pools in season. Its rooms have high-speed Internet, cable TV, and access to balconies.
3 days full of relaxation that you can combine with the essential visits of Valletta and its surroundings. The first 4 days we were in Melieha where we had the luck to visit Gozo, Comino ... Malta is another pearl of the Mediterranean to visit.
This hotel is in Valletta, close to the Upper Barracca Gardens. The views are great, particularly if you go up to the spectacular terrace where they serve a wonderful breakfast buffet. At night, this area becomes a panoramic restaurant, De Robertis Restaurant, with Mediterranean fusion cuisine: Italian, French, and local. If you prefer a pizza restaurant, then there's one next to the hotel, La Cave, which is quite cheap. This is an older hotel, and while it has undergone some restoration, its age shows in the furniture and bathrooms. But the views are good, they have free wifi, and it has three stars and quite affordable prices.
Sleeping like a king or queen is possible, and not too expensive in Valletta. In the heart of Malta's capital you'll find palaces, like the Palazzo Prince d'Orange, a magnificent building once inhabited by nobles, that has now been restored and converted into a hotel. It's a luxury to sleep in the Palazzo Prince d'Orange. It has multiple apartments. I stayed in the Alexander Suite, which should not be called a 'suite', but the holy house. It features rooms with a balcony, bathroom with shower (and a towel heater!), and great little living room with sofas, armchairs, and TV, of course all very stylishly decorated. In addition, a part of your apartment is a kitchenette with tea, milk, and cookies for any sudden hunger pangs. The penthouse, designed for four people (although it could hold more), is gorgeous. This has a pair of huge terraces, with excellent views of the Grand Harbour Valletta. Ideal for sunrise or sunset from the comfort of home (or while you're making burgers in the back). Ah! And the common spaces are a real palace. You'll feel like you're in a castle. If your budget allows, Palazzo Prince d'Orange is an excellent choice of accommodation. Not only because it is gorgeous and the service is attentive, but because its location could not be better.
There are loads of reasons to opt for this guesthouse if you go to Malta. The first is Annie, the elderly but sprightly owner who is sure to become one of the best memories of your holiday. She will welcome you at whatever time you arrive, and will give you a personal goodbye when it's time for you to depart, even if you're leaving at dawn. She serves delicious breakfast, including pastries prepared by her daughter. The guesthouse is on one of the most beautiful streets of Valletta, Triq St. Ursula.
The guesthouse is at the top of a flight of stairs, right behind the entrance to the city, close to the bus terminal and a taxi rank. Value for money is great: 20 euro per person per night, including breakfast. The rooms are spacious and clean, with a sink. The bathrooms are shared, but there are more than enough to go round. Bring your own towel. The building is made from typical Maltese limestone, and the only flaw is the lack of heaters in winter. An unforgettable atmosphere.
