    Places to stay in Cairo

This is the largest city in Africa, so it should come as no surprise that it's easy to find plenty of options for your Cairo accommodations. Places to stay in Cairo are as numerous and sumptuous as the monuments for which the city is famous. And if you're not watching your wallet, then the sky's your limit ... watching the spectacular sunsets over the desert in one of the luxury Cairo hotels near the pyramids of Giza is an experience you'll never forget.

But if you don't feel like splashing the cash, don't worry. In the city you'll find a wide selection of Cairo lodging, with something to suit all budgets and tastes. If your personal economy is not as opulent as the majestic mosques in the city, try looking for the low-cost hotels or the guesthouses. These can be found throughout Egypt and they're a great choice if you're wondering where to stay in Cairo but don't have a lot of money to spend.

Of course, it's important to remember that the capital of Egypt is a hugely popular tourist destination, so the prices of hotels in Cairo can fluctuate a lot depending on the time of year. le meridien pyramids hotel & spa
    Hotels in
    Cairo
If you go to the pyramids, it is best that you stay at one of the many hotels that are right next to them. I was surprised to find these historical monuments are really so close to civilisation! The Meridian is one of the closest hotels, with amazing views - without a doubt, the best thing about it. The hotel is pretty good: the buffet is nice, and the rooms are quite spacious and comfortable, and the service is fine. I'd recommend it, although it's not exactly a luxury hotel.

pyramids park resort cairo (formerly intercontinental pyramids)
    Hotels in
    Cairo
While it is quite far from downtown, the hotel offers a lot of amenities, big roos and a breakfast buffet that really is worth its 5 star rating. The rooms are distributed like bungalows and are very big, they have coffee or tea in the rooms also. The pool is very nice and you can choose between many restaurants inside. If it wasn´t for the distance from the center, it would be perfect.

four seasons cairo at the first residence
    Hotels in
    Cairo
This is, in my opinion, one of the most spectacular hotels I've ever stayed in. It's located right next to the Nile and has a shopping mall connected to it and also a casino. Everything exudes luxury, from the decor all the way down to the smallest detail. There's a spa overlooking the Nile (separate ones for men and women) with jacuzzi, gym, sauna, massage, and more. The rooms are extremely large. Every night, there's a show or belly-dancing in the pool area where all the local sheikhs go. The only problem I can find with this hotel is that even if you've made a reservation, sometimes a sheikh will decide he wants to stay for another week and you'll be out of a room! The restaurant is also a 10/10 in my opinion.

cairo marriott hotel & omar khayyam casino
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Marriott is located in the most stately neighborhood, Zamalek, in Gezira. This hotel was opened with the inauguration of the Suez Canal, and all the famous people that were invited to the opening of the event stayed there. Kings and queens and top celebrities left their mark here, and today it´s one of the hotels in Cairo which attracts the most guests. It´s interesting to know that there is a hotel within the Casino where all the most influential people of modern-day Cairo go. I was lucky enough to stay overnight there several nights, and the truth it´s a very glamorous hotel.

    victoria hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
Behind an unwelcoming facade, the Victoria Hotel is an old colonial house in the centre of Cairo that makes a great place to stay. You're right in the heart of downtown Cairo, a lively area filled with shops and businesses. A 15 minute walk will take you to Ramses Station, where trains run to Alexandria and the Nile Valley. Other points of interest are no more than a 15-20 minute taxi ride away, and there are always drivers waiting in front. They shouldn't charge more than 15 LE to go to Islamic Cairo and the Egyptian Museum. The hotel has 92 rooms with TV, telephone and private bathroom. They have air conditioning. Below is a bar and an internet cafe. It's a chain that has hotels in Luxor and Hurghada too.

    happyton hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Happyton is a small two star hotel located next to the Ramses train station. It has 100 rooms with private bath, air conditioning, satellite TV ... They welcome groups, and it's best to book online. If you arrive at the last minute, prices are a bit more expensive. Below is a restaurant that serves breakfast, and a bar in the lobby. The roof terrace has beautiful views over the city, serves finger food, coffee, and you can smoke a shisha, a water pipe with apple or strawberry flavour. The location is quite central: Tahrir Square is a 20-minute walk (this is where you'll find the Egyptian Museum) and there are metro stops nearby.

    cairo palace hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
Cairo Palace Hotel stands in Imad el Din Street in the Downtown district. It is a central neighborhood, a bit old, but very safe, where you have everything at your fingertips, within a taxi journey that shouldn't cost more than 15 LE. Public transport can be a bit tricky to get the hang of, apart from the metro. This is an older hotel in a nineteenth century building, with an Asian feel. Everything is clean and well-maintained, and the rooms are air conditioned and non-smoking. You have a TV and private bathroom. It is a two star hotel with prices starting at 20 euros per night if you book online, or 45 in person. 45 euros seems a little expensive, there are better deals.

    african house hostel
    Youth Hostels in
    Cairo
The African Hostel is in the Downtown neighborhood, the old center of Cairo, built in the 30's. It stands in an old building of several floors, but I think people live downstairs. There are several hotels in this area, which has a good reputation for travelers. As such, there is stiff competition, and here you have internet, 24-hour reception, currency exchange, a left luggage service for the day you check out ... and they can help organise your trips and your tickets to the sights. The price of a single room with shared bathroom is $ 13, 19 with private bath, double is between 18 and 22 dollars, the triple and quadruple between 24 and 32 dollars. The rooms are large with high ceilings with ceiling fans, typical of these old buildings.

    canadian hostel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Canadian Hostel is a two-minute walk from Tahrir Square. Like most hotels in the area, it offers cheap lodging in downtown Cairo, but is also surrounded by a lot of traffic and noise. They also offer organized tours of the Pyramids and the Nile River valley. The Egyptian Museum and the Tahrir metro station are both close by. The rooms are all air-conditioned and clean and the building is old and has high ceilings. If you stay more than three nights, you get a free airport shuttle. The price include breakfast, optional towels, and wi-fi. Rooms cost $ 10 for a shared, $ 23 double room and 45 for a triple. The basic is $ 15 / night.

    amin hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The hotel Amin is located in Falaki square, just a few minutes walk away from Midan Tahrir. The nearest metro stop is Sadat, where the two lines coincide. It is placed in a convenient location, and in the street there is less traffic than there is in Tahrir, so you it will be less noisy in your room. It is a simple, clean, and well priced establishment. There are rooms for 2,3 or 4 people, with ventilation, some come with air conditioning. They can help you organize your trip with travel agencies arranging tickets to various monuments such as the pyramids. It is a safe neighborhood, but popular, non-residential.

    carlton hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Nile Ritz Carlton hotel is next to the Nile River, it´s a luxury hotel with nice views towards the Midan Tahrir and the river with the island of Gezira and the Cairo Tower. It is the hold Hilton Nile Hotel that is being renovated, which was an institution in the city frequented by many VIPs and politicians. They should open again next year. The Egyptian Museum is 15 minutes walking and the Midan Tahrir, which never sleeps, is where you can find restaurants, bars, travel agencies and whatever service you need.

    pyramids view hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Pyramid View Hotel is in historic Giza near the secondary entrance to the pyramids and the Sphinx. Beware that there is another much more luxurious hotel with the same name. The hotel is a five minute walk from the pyramids, but it's also in a very run down neighborhood which contrasts sharply with the beauty of the Pyramids. There's nothing on the street at night after 10pm, whereas if you stay in Cairo proper, the nightlife is a lot more exciting. The rooms are basic and cost $10 per person per night. There's a Pizza Hut next door which a great terrace for viewing the Pyramids.

    barco queen of hansa hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
It is the best way to visit Egypt and once you have decided to do it on a boat crossing the Nile one must choose the boat very well because there are many types of boats of all colors too. This one is fantastic. The Nile has so many boats that sometimes you must past 6 boats to get out of yours and arrive to the shore. The food is high quality and varied, the rooms are perfect and it doesn´t seem like you are on a boat. The service was a 10, I don´t think I could ask for more.

    new palace hostel
    Youth Hostels in
    Cairo
I struggled to find the New Palace Hostel because the map on their website says it's on one side of Suleiman Halaby Street, but it's actually on the other side. It occupies the sixth and seventh floor of an old building in the neighborhood of Downtown. The guys are friendly, they learn your name quickly, and always worry about whether you're having fun. The single room costs 50 pounds per night, 35 if you want to share. I ordered one and got a private 4 bed room for me alone. Everything was very clean, and for this price I doubt you get much better. There is wifi in some rooms, and an internet cafe. We had breakfast on the terrace, which is quite basic, just bread with marmalade, an egg and coffee. They let me enter the room at 8 in the morning, but checkout is at 12. They organise tours here, and you can buy bus tickets etc ... although they do charge a commission for these services.

    semiramis intercontinental hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel is one of the luxury hotels that's next to the Nile river, the same height as the Midan Tahrir. You're in a good location here, the Egyptian Museum is right next door and the Midan Tahrir is at the Sadat metro stop, where the only two metro lines in the city pass through. The hotel costs about 150 euros per night, or 950 LE, more or less, depending on the season and business, it could be a little lower. It belongs to the Intercontinental chain. Through the hotel you can organize day trips to Islamic Cairo, Coptic Cairo and the pyramids. The decor is oriental, not very refined, but the hotel has the comfort and modernity of European standards. The views of the river are gorgeous.

    mercure cairo le sphinx hotel
    Hotels in
    Cairo
The Sphinx Guest House is next to the second entrance to the historic site of the Giza Pyramids. To get here, take the metro then later a bus from Giza, one must ask why are buses and is a bit complicated. They don´t leave you at the main entrance of the pyramids, is a half hour away! The hotel has beautiful views over the sites like the Sphinx and pyramids. In fact, it even seems a little odd that modern buildings have been built so close. There are single rooms, but also double, triple and quadruple. The double room costs $ 80 per night with views of the pyramids and the Sphinx, 70 without a view. There is also a panoramic terrace. It belongs to an old family of Giza, and has been open for 30 years.

    fairmont nile city hotel

    Cairo
A good choice if you want to visit Cairo, as it's within walking distance of the museum, and not far from downtown and the important sights. For the pyramids, you'll have to take a shuttle but it's better to stay in the centre and have to travel to the pyramids than the other way around. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the food is good.
